The Holy Qur'an comes first and the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ is the second in the main and primary sources of guidance in Islam. Islam is the divine religion and an everlasting source of orientation for the whole world, so the primary source has always been the center of interest for researchers of the subcontinent as well as the cornerstone of services for Islam in the world. The scholars of the subcontinent have endeavored to work on hadiths for centuries, and an excitement in the service of the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ has been observed in the Mughal era in particular. Shah Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlvi and Shah Waliyyullah were the most respected scholars of the era. Shah Abdul Aziz, Mian Nzair Hussain Dehlivi, Allamah Abdurrehman Mubarikpuri, Molana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi, Olana Abdul Hayy Lakhnow and Nawab Siddique Hassan Khan played a crucial role in the dissemination and further development of the hadith. Even they established Islamic institutes (Madrassah) and a center was developed in Siharanpur for the study and research of hadiths. There are various other hadith scholars in Punjab Province whose main work and research has not yet been published. The work of scholars from various schools of thought has been brought into the spotlight in this article.
